Prospective candidate will work with Design Engineering, Materials Engineering, and Manufacturing to develop the necessary robotic motions to apply thermal spray coatings to GE Gas Power components. The candidate will also collaborate with equipment vendors and Manufacturing to develop thermal spray equipment for advanced processing, inspection and automation.

Impacts departmental operations and responsible for planning/execution. The role has some autonomy but is focused on execution of activities within an operating discipline covered by standard functional practices and procedures. Some judgment may be required but this is typically with guidance.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Create robotic motion programs for coating applications

  • Validate robotic motion programs in development labs and global manufacturing and repair centers

  • Work with coating engineers to develop tooling, spray parameters, and new thermal spray equipment designs

  • Identify and test in-situ diagnostic and inspection equipment for thermal spray applications

  • Coordinate with GE Gas Power coating teams to drive standardized coating robotic programs

  • Develop new robotic automation process technology to assist with coating technology enhancements

  • Support GE Gas Power business with robotic program/equipment troubleshooting and adjustments related to support of production operations

  • Support Lean manufacturing initiatives

  • Provide timely communications on significant issues or developments

  • Conceptual, or theoretical activities relating to the development, improvement, and usage of materials, coatings, and processes undertaken to build, apply, or shape the materials.

  • Developing in-depth knowledge of a technical discipline. Uses prior experience and acquired technical expertise to execute policy/strategy.

  • In-depth understanding of key business drivers; uses this understanding to accomplish own work. In-depth understanding of how work of own team integrates with other teams and contributes to the area.

  • Uses some level of judgment and has ability to propose different solutions outside of set parameters but with guidance. Uses prior experience and on-the-job training to solve straightforward tasks. Has access to technical skills and analytic thinking required to solve problems. May use multiple internal sources outside of own team to arrive at decisions.

  • A job at this level is likely to be an individual contributor with proven interpersonal skills or an early people leader who can hire and develop talent. Provides informal guidance to new team members

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college (or a high school diploma/GED with at least 6 years of experience in Job Family Group(s)/Function(s).

Desired Characteristics

  • Bachelors Degree in Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, or Computer Science from an accredited university or college (OR a High School Diploma/GED with a minimum of 4 years of experience in an engineering, IT, scientific or other technical position)

  • Minimum of 3 years engineering or related experience

  • Familiarity with robotic automated thermal spray, industrial painting, grit blasting or welding systems

  • Familiarity with thermal spray coatings including Air Plasma Spray (APS) and High Velocity Oxygen Fuel (HVOF)

  • Familiarity and past experience with operating a thermal spray spray (ie. control console, spray torches, robot, turntable, powder feeders, airjets, etc).

  • Familiarity with FANUC robotic and automation systems

  • Additional experience in manufacture or repair of industrial gas turbine components

  • Additional experience in manufacture or repair of industrial gas turbine components

  • Strong technical aptitude, including applicable engineering tools and systems, such as Robcad and Roboguide

  • Six Sigma Green Belt, Black Belt certification, or equivalent quality certification

  • Strong oral and written communication skills. Demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve problems. Ability to document, plan, market, and execute programs. Established project management skills

For purposes of complying with U.S. pay transparency requirements, the base pay range for this position is $85,600 - $142,600 USD Annual.

The specific pay offered may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate's experience, education, and skill set.

This Lead Professional Band position is also eligible for a variable incentive bonus of 10%,

*The Company pays a geographic differential of 110%, 120% or 130% of salary in certain areas.
