Position Purpose:
The Senior Industrial Engineer will be for our Mira Loma, CA Distribution Center, and will provide Distribution Operations Management with recommendations on application of manpower, machine resources, and materials to optimize the utilization, productivity and efficiency of Distribution resources. Provide industrial engineering expertise for distribution and supply chain processes, systems and technologies that result in quality designs and efficiencies that are innovative, cost effective and support supply chain goals. Champion continuous improvement activity to improve flow, reduce lead-time and minimize costs.
Essential Job Functions:
The incumbent must be able to perform all of the following duties and responsibilities with or without a reasonable accommodation.
  • Interact professionally and effectively through verbal and written communication with all professional contacts with emphasis on company interests
  • Independently prioritize and accomplish multiple tasks within established timeframes and effectively accomplish assigned duties through work of subordinates
  • Research, analyze, develop and manage programs, including business plans and budget development and control
  • Must be able to operate computer equipment and other distribution center related equipment
  • Ability to think effectively and implement tactical elements to ensure strategic imperatives are met
  • Display a working knowledge of multi-channel Distribution Center operations
  • Provide recommendations for staffing and business forecasts
  • Quantify the value of continuous improvement opportunities and prioritize workload in collaboration with the Distribution Center Operations team
  • Drive and influence change within the Distribution Center, often times without direct authority over the primary stakeholders
  • Effectively communicate with all levels of the organization, from hourly front-line workers up to and including Senior Management
  • Flex work schedules as necessary to support project work, which may include second and weekend shift times
Nature of Supervision
Incumbent will use depth of experience and knowledge to complete projects within established timeframes requiring little direction or guidance, although large-scale projects may be reviewed prior to presentation to senior management. Regular remote communication with immediate manager and consistent communication with local senior leadership will be expected.
Supervisory Responsibility:
May provide guidance to less experienced Industrial Engineers.
Work Environment:
While some job duties are performed while seated indoors, some time is spent in a warehouse environment where exposure to heat, cold, dirt, dust, fumes, and/or noise should not be overlooked. A risk of injury may result from following improper safety procedures
Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Engineering or related; MBA preferred.
  • An equivalent combination of education and related experience may be substituted.
  • 7 years professional experience in industrial engineering required with Labor Management experience; 3 years experience in a retail distribution center environment preferred.
  • Experience in a superstore, mass market or specialty national or large regional, multi-unit retail chain store preferred.
  • Advanced knowledge and ability with warehouse management and labor management systems; Manhattan Labor Mgmt System, WLIB, WMS and/or LMS experience preferred.
  • Experience in an environment with engineered labor standards and performance management programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform time motion study of multi-variable processes.
  • Expert ability with data analysis software, specifically MS Excel; ability to create and modify Visual Basic coding is preferred.
  • Strong leadership, analytical, and project management skills are required to lead project teams; strong coaching & mentoring skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills; ability to manage conflict constructively.
10-25% travel required to execute responsibilities and support projects. Travel could be heavier for periods requiring on-site project implementation and support.
